High school boys basketball roundup: Redhawks, Dolphins, Fliers pick up victories

Five area boys basketball teams were in action on Tuesday night and three teams were able to come away with wins. Estelline/Hendricks, Deubrook Area and Flandreau were all able to secure victories and Oldham-Ramona/Rutland and Elkton-Lake Benton dropped games.

Estelline/Hendricks 82, Oldham-Ramona/Rutland 55

ESTELLINE The Redhawks improved to 6-3 with the win and the Raiders dropped to 2-7.

Estelline/Hendricks led 18-13 at the end of the first quarter and took a 34-28 lead into halftime. The Redhawks pushed the lead to 59-41 at the end of the third and then outscored the Raiders 23-14 in the final quarter.

Wyat James, Braxton Pravecek and Braxoton Jongeling each had 14 points for the Redhawks. James also had four steals and Jongeling had seven rebounds. Kyler Carlson had 13 points and three steals. Mattix Hausman had six points and 11 assists.

Cooper Merager led the Raiders with 19 points. Brayden Hanson had 13 points.

The Redhawks play Luverne (Minnesota) on Saturday in the Dakota Valley Conference Classic in Elkton on Saturday at 2 p.m. The Raiders play at Castlewood on Friday at 7:30 p.m.

Deubrook Area 65, Tri-Valley 58

WHITE Deubrook led 13-6 at the end of the first quarter and then led 36-22 at halftime. The Mustangs cut the lead to 47-38 at the end of the third but the Dolphins were able to hang for the victory in the fourth quarter.

Jake Jorenby had a huge game for the Dolphins on Tuesday as he had 36 points. Gavin Landmark had 14 points.

It was the fourth straight victory for Deubrook who is now 6-4 on the season. The Dolphins play at Sioux Valley on Thursday night at 8 p.m.

Flandreau 60, Deuel 42

FLANDREAU The Fliers improved to 6-4 with the win. They led 10-9 at the end of the first quarter and then extended the lead to 26-18 at halftime. Flandreau pulled away in the third as it outscored Deuel 19-10 in the quarter and led by 17 heading into the fourth. That was a big enough lead to secure the win.

Flandreau was led by Paul Parsley who had 18 points, 15 rebounds and four steals. Luke Sheppard had 11 points, eight rebounds and five assists. Alfie Henderson had 11 points.

Flandreau plays at McCook Central/Montrose on Friday at 7:45 p.m.

Canton 79, Elkton-Lake Benton 63

ELKTON The Elks dropped to 2-5 on the season. The score was 16-16 at the end of the first quarter. The Elks then took a 34-29 lead into halftime but the C-Hawks flipped the script in the third and led 59-45 heading into the fourth. That allowed them to cruise to the win.

ELB was led by Tanner Drietz who had 21 points and five rebounds. Carson Griffith had nine points and seven rebounds. Joseph Nibbe and Colt Beck each had nine points as well.
