HURON The Brookings Bobcats were swept as they hit the road for a doubleheader with the Huron Tigers on Tuesday night. The girls team lost to the Tigers 54-36 while the boys team lost 67-49.
The Bobcats will return to action when they host a doubleheader against Rapid City at Bob Jostad Gymnasium in Brookings High School on Friday night.
Girls
Huron 54, Brookings 36
The Bobcats held on through the first half but couldnt find a rhythm in the second half as they lost to the Tigers in the opener of Tuesdays doubleheader.
Huron had an 11-9 lead at the end of the first quarter and led 21-20 at halftime but broke the game open with a 15-8 advantage in the third quarter. After entering the fourth quarter with a 36-28 lead, the Tigers finished the game by out-scoring the Bobcats 18-8 in the final frame.
Tess Burns and Macy Even led Brookins with 10 points each in the game. Burns added three rebounds and two assists while Even grabbed a rebound. Sloan McLagan had seven points while Logan Smidt had five points, two rebounds and a steal.
Hylton Heinz led Huron with 18 points, three assists, three steals and two rebounds. Hamtyn Heinz also had 14 points, four rebounds and three assists for the Tigers. Aly Davis and Elizabeth Heinen had six points each for the Tigers with Heinen adding eight rebounds while Makenzie Siemonsma and Allison Janes also had five points each.
Brookings shot 35 percent in the game but just 28 percent in the second half. The Bobcats also went 3-for-17 (17.6%) on 3-pointers and went 6-for-8 (75%) from the free throw line.
Huron shot 43 percent from the floor and 6-fo-16 on 3-pointers (37.5%). The Tigers also shot 16-for-20 (80%) on free throws.
The Tigers out-rebounded the Bobcats 28-21 and committed 14 turnovers. Brookings had 12 turnovers in the game.
The Bobcats are now 2-6 on the season.
Boys
Huron 67, Brookings 49
Huron set the tone with a strong first half as the Tigers pulled away from the Bobcats in the nightcap of Tuesdays doubleheader.
Huron led 18-11 at the end of the first quarter and 38-22 at halftime before leading 53-36 in the third quarter and out-scoring the Bobcats 14-13 in the fourth quarter.
Austin Clark led Brookings with 11 points, three rebounds and an assist while Ben Moret had eight points and a rebound. Nathan Smith had eight points and two rebounds and Keech Bior had eight points, four rebounds and one block. Owen Burns had seven points and a rebound and Griffen Bartels had five points.
Blake Ellwein led Huron with 23 points and four rebounds while Anderson Porisch had 14 points, eight rebounds and an assist. Kolton Ogle had nine points and two rebounds and Carsen Evans had nine points, two rebounds, a block and a steal.
Brookings shot 36 percent in the game and 6-for-14 (42.9%) on 3-pointers. The Bobcats also shot 15-for-19 (78.9%) on free throws.
The Bobcats are now 1-7 on the season.
Huron shot 43 percent from the floor including 11-for-37 (29.7%) on 3-pointers. The Tigers also went 4-for-7 (57.1%) from the free throw line.
The Tigers outrebounded the Bobcats 37-25 and committed six turnovers to Brookingss 12 turnovers.
