Capt. Casey Collins named to lead South Dakota Highway Patrol

PIERRE Gov. Kristi Noem has appointed Capt. Casey Collins as the new superintendent of the South Dakota Highway Patrol, effective Jan. 22.

With an impressive career in law enforcement and a proven track record of dedication and commitment, Collinssucceedsthe retired Col. Rick Miller.

Capt. Collins brings a wealth of experience and is well-positioned to lead the SDHP into its next chapter,Departmentof Public SafetySecretary Robert Perry said. I have full confidence in Capt. Collins ability to build upon the legacy left by Col. Miller and to continue prioritizing the safety and well-being of the citizens of South Dakota.

I am extremely grateful to be selected as the next superintendent of the South Dakota Highway Patrol. I would like to thank Governor Noem and Secretary Perry for this opportunity, Collins said. The dedicated employees of the SDHP do incredible work every day to keep our citizens and visitors safe. I am honored to serve with them and committed to providing the resources needed to positively impact public safety for South Dakota.

The transfer of command for Collins will take place at a later date. Collins, who will be promoted to the rank of colonel at that time, will become the 15th superintendent in the history of the Highway Patrol, which was established in 1937.

The South Dakota Highway Patrol is part of the Department of Public Safety.

Collins is an accomplished law enforcement professional with 15 years of experience within SDHP, including service as the District Three commander in Rapid City. His service in key leadership roles demonstrates a commitment to public safety and community engagement.
