Five area boys basketball teams were in action on Thursday night. Elkton-Lake Benton and Deubrook Area picked up wins, while Arlington, Flandreau and Estelline/Hendricks lost.
Elkton-Lake Benton 69, Arlington 38
LAKE BENTON It was all ELB on Thursday night as the Elks led wire-to-wire.
The Elks led 20-8 at the end of the first quarter and took a 38-18 lead into the locker room. They led 52-32 at the end of the third and extended the lead in the fourth.
Tanner Drietz led ELB with 14 points and three steals. Eliot Erickson had 15 points and five steals. Colt Beck had 10 points. Arlington was led by Paxton Rheault who had 19 points.
ELB is now 2-4 on the season and plays Mount Vernon/Plankinton in the Dakota Valley Conference Classic in White on Saturday at 10:30 a.m. Arlington dropped to 1-6 and plays Sioux Falls Lutheran in the DVC Classic at 10 a.m. on Saturday.
Deubrook Area 63, Estelline/Hendricks 47
ESTELLINE The Dolphins improved to 5-4 on the year. They were led by Jake Jorenby who had 29 points. Gavin Landmark had 16 points.
Estelline/Hendricks dropped to 5-3 on the season. The Redhawks were led by Wyat James who had 14 points. Kyler Carlson had 12 points.
Both teams play in the DVC Classic on Saturday at Deubrook High School. Deubrook will take on Minneota (Minnesota) at 4:30 p.m. and Estelline/Hendricks plays Luverne (Minnesota) at 4 p.m.
Madison 52, Flandreau 47
MADISON Madison was able to do just enough in the second half on Thursday night to get the win over the Fliers.
Flandreau led 10-7 at the end of the first quarter but Madison outscored the Fliers by three in the second quarter and the score was 23-23 at halftime. The Bulldogs then took a 40-37 lead into the fourth and hung on for the win.
Ben Brooks led Madison with 14 points. Charles Callahan and Adonis Rodriguez each had 11 points. Flandreau was led by Paul Parsley who had 13 points. Xavier Bien had 12 points and Kody Kneebone had nine points.
Flandreau is now 5-4 and hosts Deuel on Tuesday at 6 p.m.
