The Brookings Rangers girls 15U team took first place at the Dakota Premier Classic and several youth teams were in action as part of this weeks Ranger Roundup.
GIRLS 15U
BROOKINGS The Rangers went 3-0 in group play and defeated the Northern Tier Stars to win the championship at the Dakota Premier Classic.
The tournament took place at the Larson Ice Center from Jan. 5 to Jan. 7 and saw the Rangers also defeat the KC Storm, Sioux Center and Bismarck in group play to claim the title.
Brookings 6, KC Storm 0
The Rangers scored three goals each in the first and second periods to shut out the Storm on Jan. 5.
Brynnlea Peterson scored an unassisted goal to put the Rangers on the board with 14:54 left in the first period and Anna Rasmussen scored with an assist from Kinzley Grendler to put Brookings up 2-0 with 11:54 left in the first period.
Khloe Ziegeldorf scored with assists from Allie Jacobson and Rasmussen with 6:59 to go in the first period to give the Rangers a 3-0 lead at the first intermission.
Rasmussen scored her second goal of the game from Grendler with 13:46 left in the second period and Grendler scored with assists from Ziegeldorf and Rasmussen with 3:46 left in the second period to put the Rangers up 5-0.
Rasmussen completed a hat trick with an assist from Grendler to cap the scoring with 1:47 left in the second period.
Avery Dentlinger stopped all 16 shots to earn the shutout for the Rangers.
Brookings 7, Sioux Center 3
The Rangers came out of the gates strong with four goals as they defeated Sioux Center in the tournaments second game on Jan. 6.
Kirsten Curiel opened the scoring for Sioux Center with 14:58 left in the first period before the Rangers responded with four unanswered goals. Emily Meyer scored with an assist from Sawyer Triplett with 13:29 left in the first period before Meyer returned the favor with an assist on Tripletts goal 27 seconds later to put the Rangers up 2-1.
Triplett scored again on an unassisted goal with 7:46 left in the first period before Grendler scored with an assist from Rasmussen with 2:54 left in the first period to give the Rangers a 4-1 lead at the first intermission.
Maelyn Groeneweg scored with 2:50 left in the second period to make it a 4-2 game but Grendler scored an unassisted goal with seven seconds remaining to give Brookings a 5-2 lead at the second intermission.
Ziegeldorf scored with an assist from Grendler with 16:21 left in the game and Brooke Kruse scored with an assist from Triplett with 12:08 to go before Sioux Centers Riya Brenner scored with 5:18 to play to cap the scoring.
Dentlinger made 16 saves to earn the win for the Rangers.
Brookings 9, Bismarck 4
Triplett scored five times as the Rangers defeated Bismarck in their third tournament game on Jan. 6.
Triplett opened the scoring with an assist from Ziegeldorf with 11:35 to go in the first period and Triplett scored her second goal of the game unassisted with seven minutes left in the first period.
Grendler disrupted the natural hat trick for Triplett, scoring on assists from Rasmussen and Ziegeldorf with 4:17 left in the first period. Still, Triplett scored again with an assist from Jordyn Anderson to give the Rangers a 4-0 lead at the first intermission.
Both teams combined for six goals in the second period including Arabell Mahutgas goal that put Bismarck on the board with 16:20 left in the second period. But Meyer answered with a goal from Maya Edmison and Kruse before Anja Leftwich scored with 13:13 left in the second period to make it a 6-2 game.
Triplett took over from there scoring back-to-back goals with the second one on an assist from Kruse to put Brookings up 7-2. Estella Johnson scored Bismarck to make it a 7-3 game before the Rangers put the game away with goals from Rasmussen (assists to Grendler and Peterson) and Ziegeldorf (assists from Rasmussen and Grendler) to put the game away.
Dentlinger started and made 11 saves while Audrey Andal came in and made seven saves to close the game.
Brookings 7, Northern Tier 1
The Rangers convincingly closed the tournament by scoring three goals in each of the first two periods to win the tournament title against Northern Tier on Jan. 7.
Ziegeldorf scored with an assist from Kahle to open the scoring in the first period and Triplett scored back-to-back unassisted goals to give the Rangers a 3-0 lead at the first intermission.
Rasmussen scored with an assist from Triplett to give the Rangers a 4-0 lead with 15:29 left in the second period before Peterson scored with an assist from Ziegeldorf and Grendler scored with an assist from Kahle to give Brookings a 6-0 lead.
The Stars got a goal early in the third period before Meyer scored unassisted to close the game for the Rangers.
Dentlinger stopped 20 shots to earn the win.
BANTAM A
Brookings 20, Huron 0
BROOKINGS Three different players recorded six-point games as the Rangers beat the All-Stars 20-0 at the First Bank & Trust Rink at the Larson Ice Center on Jan. 6.
The Rangers scored six times in the first period, eight times in the second period and six times in the third period to earn the win.
Jason Ready and Mauer Bartley had four goals and two assists in the win while Maxten Jensen had three goals and three assists.
Cade Zweber had a five-point game with three goals and two assists while Carson Kludt and Mason Diers each had a goal and two assists.
Ethan Foerster and Jack Lovseth each had a goal and an assist. Atwood Ahmann and Un-hyeng Keay each had a goal while Isaac Andal and Andrew Haufschild each had an assist.
Neil Trygstad stopped seven shots for the shutout as the Rangers out-shot the All-Stars 56-7. Brookings went 4-for-7 on the power play while the All-Stars did not have a power play opportunity.
BANTAM B
Mitchell 3, Brookings 2
MITCHELL Axel Reimnitz scored his second goal of the game late in the third period to help the Marlins defeat the Rangers at the Toshiba Arena on Jan. 6.
Colt Vanmaanen gave the Rangers an early lead with a power play goal from Colin Jacobson and Carter Nielsen at 2:47 of the first period but Reimnitz tied the game with an unassisted goal at 1:43 of the second period.
Lucas Hovelson tied the game for Brookings with an unassisted goal at 6:52 of the third period but Reimnitz scored an unassisted goal at 8:43 to give the Marlins the win.
Jon Drew made 24 saves in the loss while the Marlins out-shot the Rangers 27-24. Brookings went 1-for-5 on the power play while Mitchell went 0-for-2 with the man advantage.
PEEWEE A
BROOKINGS The Rangers picked up victories over Huron and Brandon Valley in a pair of games at the Larson Ice Center over the weekend.
Brookings 6, Huron 0
The Rangers scored twice in the first period, three times in the second period and once in the third period to defeat the All-Stars on Jan. 6.
Kallen Serfling had a six-point game, recording two goals and four assists for the Rangers. Weston Diers scored twice with two goals and an assist and Tegan Jensen had a goal and two assists.
Jager Jacobsma scored a goal while Owen Rounds, Graham Gerlach and Isaac Haufschild each had an assist.
Haufschild made two saves while Warner Carroll had one assist.
Brookings 12, Brandon Valley 0
The Rangers scored five goals in the first period, three goals in the second period and four goals in the third period to defeat Brandon Valley on Jan. 7.
Blaine Zweber had two goals and two assists while Coy Friedrich had three assists in the win. Rounds, Serfling and Jacobsma had two goals each while Jensen and Diers each had a goal and an assist. Jasper Pitts and Thor Zell had two assists each while Luke Luvaas scored a goal and Oliver Ahmann recorded an assist in the win.
Haufschild and Carroll each made one save in the win. The Rangers out-shot the Ice Cats 28-2.
PEEWEE B
The Rangers picked up two wins on the weekend scoring a win over Sioux Center on Jan. 6 and defeating the Oahe Capitals on Jan. 7.
Brookings 6, Sioux Center 3
SIOUX CENTER The Rangers scored two goals in each period as they picked up a win over Sioux Center on Jan. 6.
Gavin Zweibahmer and Liam Heiberger each scored twice for the Rangers while Jacob Myhre added a goal and Jackson Hahn scored a shorthanded goal.
Brayden Brintnall made 15 saves for the Rangers, who out-shot Sioux Center 30-18.
Brookings 16, Oahe 0
BROOKINGS The Rangers lit up the scoreboard, scoring five goals in the first period, six goals in the second period and five goals in the third period for a 16-0 victory over the Capitals at the Larson Ice Center on Jan. 7.
Deacon Trumbo recorded a hat trick in the win why Myhre scored twice and added two assists. Heiberger and Brintnall each had two goals and an assist while Spencer Lovseth, Adrian Almhjeld and Ryker Hovey each had a goal and an assist.
Emmett Berkenhoff, Zweibahmer and Liam Diercks each had goals in the win.
Porter Vanderbush made three saves to earn the shutout. The Rangers out-shot the Capitals 38-3.
SQUIRT B1 RED
YANKTON The Rangers picked up a pair of wins, defeating Yankton and Brandon Valley on Jan. 6.
Brookings 16, Yankton 0
The Rangers scored two goals in the first period, six goals in the second period and eight goals in the third period to beat the Bucks.
Joey Francisco scored nine goals for the Rangers while Knox Frericks scored four goals with an assist. Jordyn Ballis had two goals, Tate Heiberger had one goal and Nora Vanderbush recorded an assist.
Nash Billings made the start for Brookings. Shots on goal were not recorded.
Brookings 6, Brandon Valley 1
The Rangers scored three goals in the first period and three goals in the second period to defeat the Ice Cats.
Frericks had five goals for the Rangers while Francisco had a goal. Colt Grygiel recorded an assist.
Nash Billings made 15 saves and the Rangers out-shot the Ice Cats 32-16.
SQUIRT B2 BLUE
PIERRE The Rangers split a pair of games over the weekend, falling to Oahe but beating Rushmore at the Pierre Expo Center on Jan. 6.
Oahe 8, Brookings 6
The Rangers scored twice in the second period and four times in the third period but couldnt come up with the win over the Capitals.
Avery Swisher had four goals and an assist. Xander Reeser had a goal and an assist. Henry Dangel scored a goal while Graham Itterman and Liam Nelson each had assists.
Sarantis Theodosopoulos made 12 saves. The Capitals out-shot the Rangers 20-15.
Brookings 6, Rushmore 1
The Rangers scored three goals in the first period, two goals in the second period and one goal in the third to defeat the Thunder.
Itterman had two goals and an assist and Swisher scored two goals. Bradley Cox had a goal and an assist while Nicholas Hanson had a goal and Mason Nelson and Theodosopoulos each had an assist.
Dangel made 14 saves in the win and the Rangers out-shot the Thunder 22-15.
