On Dec. 2, the Mickelson Middle School Bobcat Builders Lego League Team competed at the First Lego League qualifying event in Sioux Falls.
Not only is it this teams first year and the teams first time in a competition, but the teams talent in Robot Design, Robot Game, Core Values, and Innovation Project put them on top to take first place out of 22 teams fromeastern South Dakota.
Lego League is a friendly competition where teams of kids engage in research, problem-solving, coding and engineering building and programming a Lego robot that navigates the missions of a robot game.
As part of the challenge, teams also participate in a research project to identify and solve a relevant real-world problem.
The Bobcat Builders will now go on to compete at the state championship on Feb. 17 at Augustana University in Sioux Falls.
