MILLER The Sioux Valley Cossacks finished 13th as they competed in the Bob Lager Invitational on Saturday afternoon.
The Cossacks finished the invite with a total of 31 points. Philip Area finished in first place with 204.5 points, Miller/Highmore/Harrold finished in second place with 194 points, Faulkton Area finished in third place with 139.5 points, Wagner finished in fourth place with 128.5 points and Wessington Springs/Woonsocket/Wolsey-Wessington finished fifth with 128 points.
Tate Steffensen placed second for the Cossacks at 126 pounds. Steffensen pinned Lintons Adan Shea at 1:52 in the quarterfinals and won a 3-1 decision over Philip Areas Asher Peterson in the semifinals before losing by a 4-0 decision to Redfields Conner Zens in the championship match.
Owen Vandeweerd finished in third place at 285 pounds. Vandeweerd pinned Parkstons Isaac Soulek at 2:35 in the first round and won by a 5-0 decision over Faulkton Areas Foster Bode in the quarterfinals before dropping a 1-0 decision to Faulkton Areas Parker Bode in the semifinals.
Vandeweerd rebounded to win by a 5-1 decision over Mathis Resel in the consolation semifinals and 2-1 in sudden victory over Mt. Vernon/Plankinton/Corsica/Stickneys Aiden Novak in the third-place match.
Wyatt Hardt competed at 150 pounds and went 1-2 at the tournament. Hardt won by fall over Deuels Hayden Cooper at 2:57 of the first round of the consolation bracket.
Dubhlainn Vermeulen competed at 132 pounds and went 0-3. Tyson Norgaard competed at 144 pounds and went 0-2. Luke Johnson competed at 175 pounds and went 0-3 at the tournament.
The Cossacks will return to action when they travel to Deuel/Deubrook Area on Thursday.
