Vehicle catches fire after collision in Brookings

BROOKINGS A two-vehicle accident Wednesday morning in Brookings led to minor injuries and one of the vehicles catching fire.

The incident occurred around 9:53 a.m. at the intersection of 20th Street South and 17th Avenue South, according to a news release from the Brookings Police Department. The names, ages and hometowns of the people involved were not released.

According to information from the BPD, a 2010 Chevrolet Malibu was eastbound on 20th Street South, behind a 2008 Chevrolet Tahoe. As the two vehicles approached the intersection, the Malibu collided with the rear of the Tahoe. The driver of the Malibu suffered a minor wrist injury and was treated on the scene by Brookings Ambulance and released. The driver of the Tahoe went to Brookings Health System after leaving the scene to be treated for minor complaint of pain.

The Malibu caught fire due to the collision, BPD Lt. Joe Fishbaugher wrote in the release. The blaze was contained and extinguished by the Brookings Fire Department.
