BROOKINGS Kaia Rose Madsen, the daughter of Alexandra Alex Madsen and Andrew Williams, was born at 12:52 p.m. on Jan. 2, making her the first baby of the new year at Brookings Health System.
Kaia is also a second-generation New Year’s baby. She shares a birthday with her mom who was also a New Year’s baby at the hospital she was born at.
Her due date was Dec. 31. I thought shed come around Christmas,Madsen said. I didnt think it was going to be possible for her be born on my birthday.
Madsen was induced on New Years Day. Since Kaia isMadsen’sfirst baby,Madsen andWilliams thought labor would progress slowly. Kaia, however, was ready to come out.Madsen ended up in labor for only five to six hours.
Its special for mom and daughter to both share the honor of New Year’s baby and the same birthday. However, according to dad, thats not all they share.
She has the same hair color, eyes and nose as Alex, said Williams. We knew she had her moms nose from the ultrasound. On a side profile picture, I told Alex, thats one-hundred percent your nose.
