BROOKINGS Flandreau, Arlington and Estelline/Hendricks picked up wins as eight area teams competed at the Michael J. Entringer Scholarship Classic at Brookings High School on Saturday afternoon.
Flandreau 61, Colman-Egan 40
Flandreau took a 12-8 lead at the end of the first quarter before going into halftime with a 25-19 advantage. The Fliers broke the game open by out-scoring the Hawks 18-11 in the third quarter and finished the game with an 18-10 advantage in the fourth quarter to secure the win.
Luke Sheppard led the Fliers with 15 points, seven rebounds, two blocks, a steal and an assist and Paul Parsley added 11 points, five assists, four steals, two blocks and two rebounds.
Kody Kneebone had 10 points, two assists and two rebounds while Alfie Henderson had 10 points, three rebounds and an assist. Xavier Bien also had eight points, four assists, three rebounds and a steal in the win.
Jase Mousel led C-E with 13 points, six rebounds, two blocks and a steal. Jack Mousel had 11 points, five rebounds, an assist and a steal while Jackson Zwart had 11 points and five rebounds.
Flandreau shot 51 percent from the floor and went 4-for-13 (30.8%) on 3-point attempts. The Fliers also out-rebounded the Hawks 28-26 and had 11 turnovers compared to 12 for C-E.
The Hawks shot 30 percent from the floor and 9-of-21 (28.6%) on 3-pointers.
The Fliers improved to 3-2 on the season and will travel to Madison on Jan. 11. The Hawks fell to 2-3 and will travel to Oldham-Ramona/Rutland on Friday night.
Arlington 49, Oldham-Ramona/Rutland 39
The Raiders took an 8-5 lead in the first quarter but Arlington took a 19-18 lead into halftime. ORR took a 30-26 lead into the fourth quarter but the Cardinals had a 23-9 advantage in the final frame to secure the win.
Kaden Steffen had 15 points, 12 rebounds, two steals and a block while Paxton Rheault had 15 points, 10 rebounds and a steal in the win. Leilan Farstad also had six points, two rebounds and two steals for Arlington.
Brayden Hanson led the Raiders with 16 points, four rebounds and two steals while Cooper Merager had eight points, eight rebounds and a steal. Boyd Pooler had five points and eight rebounds and Caden Hojen had five points and 11 rebounds for ORR.
Arlington shot 33 percent from the floor and 2-of-16 (12.5%) on 3-pointers. ORR shot 22 percent from the floor and 3-of-18 (16.7%) on 3-pointers.
ORR outrebounded Arlington 49-42 and Arlington committed 14 turnovers to ORRs 13 turnovers.
Arlington improved to 1-3 on the season and will travel to DeSmet on Friday. ORR fell to 1-3 and will travel to Marion Academy/Freeman on Tuesday afternoon.
Estelline/Hendricks 60, Deuel 53
The Cardinals took a 19-11 lead at the end of the first quarter but E/H went into halftime tied at 28-28. The Redhawks pulled away with a 17-5 advantage in the third quarter and held off the Cardinals 20-15 advantage in the fourth quarter.
Wyat James led E/H with 23 points, three rebounds and a steal while Kyler Carlson had 13 points, three rebounds, a steal and two blocks. Braxton Pravecek had 11 points, seven rebounds, four steals, two assists and a block while Caden Ching had seven points, three rebounds a steal and an assist. Mattix Hausman added five points, seven assists, three steals and three rebounds in the win.
Trey Maaland had 29 points, five rebounds, three steals and an assist for the Cardinals.
E/H shot 48 percent from the floor including 7-of-12 (58.3%) on 3-pointers. Deuel shot 36 percent from the floor and 5-of-22 (22.7%) on 3-pointers. The Cardinals outrebounded the Redhawks 33-27 and committed 15 turnovers to E/Hs 17.
The Redhawks improved to 4-1 with the win and will host Dell Rapids St. Mary on Thursday night.
Waverly-South Shore 53, Elkton-Lake Benton 47
The Coyotes led 13-11 at the end of the first quarter and took a 24-21 lead into halftime. WSS out-scored the Elks 13-7 in the third quarter to take a 37-28 lead into the final frame and held on as ELB out-scored the Coyotes 19-16 in the fourth quarter.
Carson Griffith led the Elks with 17 points, six rebounds, three assists, two blocks and a steal. Tanner Drietz also had 10 points, three rebounds and an assist while Colt Beck had eight points in the loss.
Colton Kranz led WSS with 14 points, seven rebounds an assist and a block while Zach Ries had 14 points, five rebounds and a steal.
ELB shot 30 percent from the floor and 6-for-32 (18.8%) on 3-point attempts. The Elks were out-rebounded 41-28 and committed seven turnovers compared to 20 turnovers for WSS.
The Coyotes shot 47 percent from the floor and 2-for-7 (28.6%) on 3-point attempts.
The Elks fell to 1-3 on the season with the loss and will return to action when they travel to Waubay/Summit on Friday night.
Baltic 57, Deubrook Area 37
The Bulldogs led 14-10 at the end of the first quarter before pulling away with a 20-3 advantage in the second quarter. After bringing a 34-13 lead into halftime, Baltic out-scored Deubrook 15-13 in the third quarter before the Dolphins had an 11-8 advantage in the fourth quarter.
Gavin Landmark led the Dolphins with eight points and four rebounds while Jacob Jorenby had seven points, eight rebounds, three assists, three blocks and five steals. Isaac Glass had six points and a steal while J.P. Rogness had five points and a rebound.
Jack Erickson led Baltic with 16 points, four rebounds, six assists, a block and four steals in the win.
Deburook shot 26 percent from the floor and 6-for-15 (40 percent) from the 3-point line. The Bulldogs outrebounded the Dolphins 41-32 and Deubrook committed 20 turnovers to Baltics 15 turnovers.
Baltic shot 44 percent from the floor and 2-of-17 (11.8%) on 3-pointers.
Deubrook fell to 2-4 with the loss and will host Iroquois/Lake Preston on Thursday night.
Garretson 64, Iroquois/Lake Preston 50
The Blue Dragons led 15-14 at the end of the first quarter and out-scored the Sharks 14-5 in the second quarter to take a 29-19 lead into halftime. Garretson had a 17-16 advantage in the third quarter and an 18-15 advantage in the fourth quarter.
Lucas Pesey had 21 points, six rebounds and six steals while Josh McMasters had 11 points, two assists and a steal for the Sharks. Ryne Green had nine points, five rebounds, an assist a block and a steal while Rexton Blue had six points, four rebounds and three assists.
Ian Buettner led Garretson with 13 points, 10 rebounds, an assist and a steal.
ILP shot 31 percent in the game including 9-for-28 (32.1%) on 3-pointers. Garretson shot 42 percent in the game including 6-for-17 (35.3%) on 3-pointers.
Garretson outrebounded ILP 44-33 and committed 14 turnovers to ILPs 11 turnovers.
ILP fell to 1-6 on the season and will travel to Hitchcock/Tulare on Tuesday night.
