SALEM The Sioux Valley girls wrestling team finished in sixth place at the MCM Girls Invitational on Thursday.
The Cossacks came in sixth with 58 team points. Canton came in first with 157 points, Central Lyon/George-Little Rock came in second (108) and Bon Homme/Scotland/Avon finished in third (85.5).
Sioux Valley had four wrestlers compete in the tournament.
Summer Guthmiller was the top finisher and she came in second place in the 138-pound weight class. She pinned Bon Homme/Scotland/Avons Leah Wittington in 1:51 in the first round. She then pinned Wessington Springs/Woonsocket/Wolsey-Wessingtons Camille Rearick in 57 seconds in the quarterfinal. Guthmiller followed that up with a pin of Kingsbury Countys Jaidynn Giedd in 36 seconds in the semifinals before losing a 21-12 major decision to Bon Homme/Scotland/Avons Peyton Hellmann in the championship match.
Trinity Kurtenbach came in third place in the 107-pound weight class. She pinned Mitchells Allyson Tilberg in 2:23 in the quarterfinals before getting pinned by Cantons Brook Warejcka in 44 seconds in the quarterfinals. She followed that up with a forfeit win over a Canistota wrestler in the consolation semifinals and then pinned Madisons Makayla Schardin in 57 seconds in the third place match.
Citabria Mazanares came in third at 100. She pinned Central Lyon/George-Little Rocks Ellie Loose in 4:31 in the quarterfinal match. She would then fall to Groton Areas Liza Krueger via pin in 2:53 in the semifinals. In the consolation semifinals Manazares pinned Kingsbury Countys Jaylynn Johnson in 3:51 and pinned Loose again in the third place match in 1:16.
Ava VandeWeerd finished in fourth at 165. She received a bye in the quarterfinals and then was pinned by Madisons AZiyah Meredith in 4:35 in the semifinals. She then received a bye to the third place match and was pinned by Central Lyon/George-Little Rocks Aubree Benz in 1:32.
