College football: Gronowski, Greenfield honored by FCS ADA

CLEVELAND, Ohio South Dakota State quarterback Mark Gronowski and offensive tackle Garret Greenfield were honored Thursday as members of the 2023 FCS ADA All-America Team, which is sponsored by the Division I Football Championship Subdivision Athletic Directors Association.

The FCS ADA All-America Team is the most exclusive honor squad as it recognizes the top student-athletes from FCS institutions across 11 different positions. The 2023 class includes student-athletes from nine different institutions, representing three different conferences. Voting was conducted by a national panel, consisting of media and sports information directors.

A junior from Naperville, Illinois, Gronowski has displayed consistency and efficiency throughout the 2023 season. He ended the 11-game regular season leading the FCS in passing efficiency and has maintained that ranking through three playoff games with a 182.72 rating while throwing for 2,883 yards and 28 touchdowns against only four interceptions. Gronowski also has rushed for seven touchdowns and 349 yards.

Gronowski has led the Jackrabbits to a 36-3 record and three appearances in the national title game in his three seasons as a starter. SDSU carries a 28-game winning streak into the FCS National Championship Game against Montana on Jan. 7 in Frisco, Texas.

Greenfield, a senior from Rock Valley, Iowa, has helped pave the way for a Jackrabbit offense averaging 38.4 points and 456.1 yards of offense per game while maintaining nearly a 50-50 split between rushing and passing. SDSU has allowed only 10 sacks in 14 games so far this season.

From the 11 All-America Team honorees, an Offensive Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year will be announced on Jan. 3. The Offensive Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year recipients will be recognized at the FCS national title game during an on-field presentation.
