High school basketball: Brookings Bobcats teams swept in Tea Area doubleheader

TEA The Brookings Bobcats were swept in a doubleheader with the Tea Area Titans as the boys basketball team was defeated 56-43 and the girls basketball team lost 75-37.

The Bobcats will return to action when they play a doubleheader in Douglas on Dec. 21.

Boys

Tea Area 56, Brookings 43

The Titans took a 12-7 lead at the end of the first quarter and led 22-19 at the end of the second quarter. The Bobcats cut into the lead to go into the fourth quarter down 37-35, but Tea Area out-scored Brookings 19-8 in the final quarter to earn the win.

Austin Clark scored 13 points with five rebounds for the Bobcats while Owen Burns had 10 points and three rebounds. Ben Moret had eight points for the Bobcats.

Marshall Smythe had 17 points and four rebounds for the Titans while Jessen Wiebenga had 15 points and six rebounds. Sam Almas also had 12 points and six rebounds for Tea Area.

Brookings shot 37 percent from the floor and 5-for-18 (27.8%) on 3-pointers. Brookings also shot 10-of-12 (87.5%) from the free throw line, committed 17 turnovers and was outrebounded 31-24.

The Bobcats are now 0-4 on the season.

Girls

Tea Area 75, Brookings 37

SDSU commit Kate Vasecka scored a game-high 34 points to lead the Titans over the Bobcats.

The Titans took control early with a 27-7 lead at the end of the first quarter and led 44-18 at the end of the first half. Tea Area led 61-31 at the end of the third quarter and out-scored Brookings 14-6 in the fourth quarter.

Logan Smidt led the Bobcats with nine points while Macy Even had seven points. Brinleigh Mack had six points while Tess Burns and Amari Ward had five points each.
