Local girls hockey: Brookings Rangers fall to Marlins in Mitchell

MITCHELL The Brookings Rangers fell in a South Dakota Amateur Hockey Association matchup 8-1 against Mitchell at the Toshiba Arena on Friday night.

The Marlins got on the board at 3:37 of the first period on an unassisted goal by Brynlee Sabers but Sawyer Triplett answered for the Rangers with her unassisted goal at 13:52 of the first period.

Makenna Tronnes scored a shorthanded goal at 16:47 of the first period to give the Marlins a 2-1 lead at the first intermission before Mitchell scored five times in the second period with all five goals coming from Sabers.

Aralyn Barta added an unassisted power play goal at 14:39 of the third period to cap the scoring.

Rorii Quam made 13 saves for the Rangers while Avery Dentlinger made the start and made seven saves. The Rangers went 0-for-2 on the power play while Mitchell went 2-for-4 with the man advantage. Mitchell outshot Brookings 28-20.

The Rangers are 3-3 on the season and will return to action when they host Watertown at the Larson Ice Arena on Dec. 29.
