High school girls basketball: Flandreau, Sioux Valley victorious at Entringer Classic

COLMAN Eight area teams competed at the Entringer Scholarship Classic in Colman on Saturday.

Flandreau beat Arlington 59-42 and Sioux Valley topped Dell Rapids St. Mary 66-43.

Colman-Egan beat Dell Rapids 48-31, Elkton-Lake Benton beat Chester 61-52 in overtime and Oldham-Ramona/Rutland beat Waverly-South Shore 48-31. Estelline/Hendricks fell to Hamlin 54-39, Iroquois/Lake Preston lost to Deuel 54-51 and Deubrook Area was beat by Garretson 60-49. Stats were not provided for those games.

Flandreau 59, Arlington 42

It was a battle of ranked teams and the Fliers, who are ranked fourth in Class A, came out on top over the No. 5 ranked team in Class B.

Flandreau led 23-10 at the end of the first quarter and then took a 39-17 lead into the locker room. The Fliers then led 52-31 at the end of the third and were able to cruise to a victory.

Lily Klein was the MVP of the game as she led Flandreau with 21 points, eight rebounds and two blocks. Claire Sheppard had 14 points, seven rebounds and six assists. Lizzie Pavlis had 10 points, seven rebounds and five assists. Sadie Iott had 11 points.

The Fliers shot 44% from the field and were 7-of-9 at the free throw line.

Flandreau is now 4-0 on the season and the Fliers next game is on Dec. 28 and they will play at Dell Rapids at 7 p.m.

Sioux Valley 66, Dell Rapids St. Mary 43

A strong first quarter put the Cossacks up 15-2 and they never looked back as they improved to 3-0 on the season. They led 33-12 at halftime. Each team scored 22 points in the third quarter and the Cossacks outscored the Cardinals 11-9 in the final frame.

Sioux Valley shot 39.3% from the field and was 15-of-43 from three. The Cossacks were 3-of-4 at the free throw line. They were led by Talya Vincent who had 21 points and she made seven 3-pointers. She was the MVP of the game.

Kailey Cradduck hadd 14 points and 13 rebounds. Isabelle Bloker had 12 points. Keyra Kruse had eight points and eight rebounds.

The Cardinals shot 25.4% from the field and were 3-of-23 from three. They were 8-of-15 at the line. DRSM was led by Brianna Griffin who had 10 points and four rebounds. Addison Libis and Maddy LeBrun each had eight points. Jenna Miller had seven points and eight rebounds.

The Cossacks won the rebound battle 39-30. DRSM had seven turnovers and the Cossacks had 15.

Sioux Valley hosts Beresford on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m.
