High school boys wrestling: Brookings Bobcats claim fourth place in Madison

The Brookings boys wrestling team finished in fourth as a team at the Madison Invitational on Saturday.

The Bobcats had 131 points as a team. Strugis Brown came in first (301.5), Rapid City Stevens came in second (204.0) and West Central finished in third (169.5).

Tate Helmbolt, Nolan Miles and Joey Fitzpatrick took home individual titles. Helmbolt won the 113-pound weight class. He won a 3-1 decision over Rapid City Stevens Max Schoenhard in the semifinals and then beat Sturgis Browns Tarver Zebroski by injury default in the championship.

Miles won the 132-pound weight class. He beat Sioux Falls Lincolns Bentley Williams via a 12-3 major decision in the semifinals and won a 6-4 decision over Sturgis Browns Dee Daniels.

Fitzpatrick won the 190-pound weight class. He won a 7-5 sudden death decision over Dell Rapids Mason Stubbe and then pinned Sioux Falls Lincolns Kishmar Eberline in the championship.

Gabe Stern came in second in the 175-pound weight class. He won a 14-5 major decision over Sturgis Browns Kelson Dirk in the semifinals before losing a 9-2 decision to Tea Areas Sam Werdel in the championship.

Blake Kannegieter came in fifth at 165 and Levi Quam came in sixth at 120. Kannegieter pinned Omaha Centrals Austin Lathan in the fifth place match. Quam lost a 6-1 decision in the fifth place match to Madisons Wyatt Pickard.
