High school wrestling: Brookings Bobcats split dual at Watertown

WATERTOWN The Brookings Bobcats split a pair of duals as the girls wrestling team defeated the Watertown Arrows 42-39 and the boys team lost 51-25 at the Watertown Civic Arena on Thursday night.

Both teams will return to action when the Bobcats take part in the Madison Invitational on Saturday.

Girls

Brookings 42, Watertown 39

Ramsie Hinricher picked up a pair of wins, pinning Josie Althoff at 2:20 and pinning Avah Grismer at 5:52 of her 126-pound match.

Bailey Tekrony pinned Kaitlynn Payne at 1:54 of her 107-pound match and Lily Toft also earned a pin at 3:25 of her 114-pound match against Audrey Mack.

Cierra Strand was the next Bobcat to earn a pin, defeating Jeryn Fieber at 1:11 of her 132-pound match and Johanna Steinlicht pinned Nevaeh Schanbeck 49 seconds into her 145-pound match.

Mack also defeated MaKenna Hudy by a 7-3 decision and Olivia Anderson pinned Claire Milliron at 1:12 of her 100-pound match.

Maizy Mathis earned a win by forfeit at 165 pounds for Brookings while Hayden Thomas (120 pounds), Katelyn Yexley (138 pounds), April Peterson (152 pounds), Allison Konrad (185 pounds) and Eden Hach (250 pounds) earned forfeit wins for the Arrows.

Boys

Watertown 51, Brookings 25

Tate Helmbolt, Nolan Miles, Mason Mathis, Gabriel Stern and Joey Fitzpatrick were able to pick up wins for the Bobcats.

Helmbolt scored a win for Brookings at 113 pounds by pinning Max Stroup at 1:23 and Miles won an 11-2 major decision over Leo Strup at 138 pounds.

Mathis defeated Cooper Kettwig by an 8-5 decision at 144 pounds while Stern pinned Andrew Stricker at 1:34 in a 175-pound match. Fitzpatrick earned the final victory for Brookings, pinning Jensen Wientjes 14 seconds into their 190-pound match.

Watertowns Gage Lohr pinned Levi Quam at 5:48 of their 120-pound match, Sloan Johannsen defeated Jacob Milliron by fall at 2:13 at 126 pounds, Derek Hanson pinned Sawyer Johnson at 1:03 at 132 pounds and Marcus Pitkin won a 4-2 decision over Logan Straub at 157 pounds.

Tucker Urdahl pinned Blake Kannegieter at 165 of their 165-pound match, Ethan Wientjes pinned Carson Loehr 40 seconds into their 215-pound match and Micah Hach pinned Dylan Reynolds 57 seconds into their 285-pound match.

Watertowns Chase Mathews (106 pounds) and Landen Lewis (150 pounds) also won by forfeit.
