The Brookings Rangers program was all over the area this past weekend as several levels headed off to tournaments and continued the regular season portion of their schedule.
BOYS JV
MINNETONKA, Minn. The Rangers took part in the Minnetonka Junior Gold B Tournament from Dec. 8-10. Brookings dropped all three games in pool play, falling to Stillwater on Friday and Minnetonka White and Edina Green on Saturday.
Stillwater 2, Brookings 1
The Ponies got on the board at 11:57 of the first period when Anthony Verby scored with assists by Aiden Betlock and Jonas Peterson. Stillwater doubled its lead when Peterson scored with assists by Ethan Hoffman and Jackson Bonneson at 5:21 of the second period.
Parker Nielsen scored the lone goal for the Rangers from Waylon Carroll at 6:32 of the first period.
Paxtyn Pottorff made 21 saves for the Rangers. Stillwater outshot Brookings 23-17.
Minnetonka White 5, Brookings 1
The Skippers scored two goals in each of the first two periods and added another in the third period to defeat the Rangers on Saturday afternoon.
Elijah Zapzalka scored an unassisted goal to put the Skippers on the board at 11:37 of the first period and scored again from Jack Knudsen to give Minnetonka a 2-0 lead.
Noah Fjelstadd extended the lead with an assist from Aiden Zapzalka at 12:59 of the second period and Cory Manos made it a 4-0 game with assists from Elijah Zapzalka and Thomas Demann at 12:15 of the second period.
Cooper Schneider put the Rangers on the board with assists from Gavin Loy and Camden Reicks at 4:39 of the second period but Levi Trombley scored the final goal of the game from Knudsen and Demann at 2:06 of the third period.
Ryder Anderson made 27 saves for the Rangers. Minnetonka outshot Brookings 32-15.
Edina Green 7, Brookings 2
Connor Buckling put the Rangers on the board with an unassisted goal at 13:58 of the first period before Aidan Keating tied the game with an assist from William Frankenstein-Carlson at 12:26 of the first period. Edina took the lead on Roman Hinnenkamps goal from Haden Smith and Ben Slaney at 8:06 of the first period before Connor Knowles and Smith scored to make it a 4-1 game.
Andrew Hahn kept Brookings in the game with his goal from Nielsen and Buckley at 3:30 of the first period but the Hornets scored three times in the third period, getting goals from Andrew Chorske, Hinnenkamp and Slaney to put the game away.
Pottorff started in net for the Rangers.
BANTAM A
GRAND FORKS, Minn. The Rangers finished as runners-up at the Buffalo Wild Wings Grand Forks Hockey Tournament which took place from Dec. 8-10.
The Rangers opened the tournament by defeating West Fargo 10-0 on Friday afternoon and defeated Hermantown 4-1 and Kenora 6-0 on Saturday. Brookings opened the championship bracket by defeating Prior Lake 3-2 on Sunday morning before falling to Edina 3-1 in the championship game on Sunday afternoon.
Game stats were not available for this tournament.
BANTAM B
GRAND FORKS, Minn. The Rangers took part in the Buffalo Wild Wings Bantam B Tournament, which took place from Dec. 8-10.
The Rangers went 1-3 in the tournament, picking up their lone win against West Fargo.
Brainerd 2, Brookings 1
Brainerd jumped out to a two-goal lead to secure the victory over the Rangers on Friday night.
Maxwell Neptune put the Warriors on the board in the second period with an assist from Collin Barnum with 7:36 to go in the second period and Drew Christensen doubled the lead with his goal from William Fleck with 14:24 left in the third period.
Colt Vanmaanen scored an unassisted goal with 10:41 left in regulation but the Rangers could not find the equalizer.
Jon Drew made 40 saves for the Rangers. Brookings was out-shot 42-7.
Thief River Falls 6, Brookings 0
The Prowlers scored two goals in each period to defeat the Rangers on Saturday morning.
Jon Drew made 32 saves in the loss.
Fargo Gold 2, Brookings 0
There were no stats available for this game.
Brookings 5, West Fargo 2
The Ragers scored three times in the third period to defeat West Fargo on Saturday afternoon.
Lucas Hovelson scored from Thatcher Haselhorst and Landon Schumacher in the first period and Carter Nielsen scored an unassisted goal in the second period.
Grant Horn scored from Vanmaanen early in the third period before Schumacher scored an unassisted goal and Jeremiah Hovey scored from Vanmaanen to cap the scoring.
Drew made 22 saes in the win. Brookings out-shot West Fargo 28-22.
PEEWEE A
FARGO The Rangers won two of their four games as they took part in the Fargo Buffalo Wild Wings Woodchipper Tournament from Dec. 8-10.
The Rangers defeated Brainerd Blue and Hazen Beluah at the tourney but lost to Edina Green and Coon Rapids.
Edina Green 5, Brookings 2
The Hornets used a three-goal second period to defeat the Rangers in the first game of the tournament on Friday.
Gain Johnson and Alex Vonder Harr scored goals early in the first period to put the Hornets ahead 2-0 but Weston Diers scored an unassisted goal with 1:54 left in the first period to cut the deficit in half going into the first intermission.
Danny Downey scored to extend Edinas lead and Beckett Fix scored twice to put the Hornets up 5-1 at the end of the second period. Luke Luvaas scored with an assist from Tegan Jensen with 4:44 left in the third period for the final score.
Isaac Haufschild made eight saves for the Rangers. Brookings out-shot Edina 16-13.
Brookings 8, Brainerd Blue 1
The Rangers scored four goals in the first period, one goal in the second period and three goals in the third period to defeat the Warriors on Saturday.
Jensen opened the scoring with a goal from Kallen Serfling with 9:26 left in the first period before Coy Fiederich scored with an assist to Oliver Ahmann and Luvaas scored with assists from Jasper Pitts and Jensen and Weston Diers scored an unassisted goal to give Brookings a 4-0 lead at the first intermission.
Ahmann scored from Jensen and Diers to extend the lead with 9:10 left in the second period before Jensen scored an unassisted goal with 10:45 left in the third period to put the Rangers up 5-0.
Brainerds Carson Katzenberger cut into the lead with a goal with 9:46 left in the third period but Diers scored from Jensen with 1:45 left in the third period and Graham Gerlach scored an unassisted goal with 22 seconds to go to cap the scoring.
Warner Carroll made seven saves in the win. Brookings out-shot Brainerd 36-8.
Coon Rapids 4, Brookings 1
Coon Rapids scored twice in the first period and had one goal each in teh second and third periods to defeat the Rangers 4-1 on Saturday.
Jaxon Rodrigues scored from Owen Ables to put Coon Rapids on the board with 6:56 left in the first period and Rodrigues doubled up with an assist from Raiden Conner to put Coon Rapids up 2-0 at the end of the first period.
Rodrigues scored his third goal of the game unassisted with 13:53 left in the second period before Diers scored a power play goal with an assist from Tegan Jensen with five minutes left in the second period.
Brennan Schmidt scored the final goal of the game with 2:06 left in the third period.
Carroll made 21 saves in the loss. Coon Rapids out-shot Brookings 27-25.
Brookings 6, Hazen-Beulah 1
Jensen scored an unassisted goal with 7:19 left in the first period to put the Rangers on the board and Serfling followed suit with another unassisted goal with 5:44 left in the first period.
Diers extended the lead with an assist from Jager Jacobsma with 11:56 left in the second period before Serfling scored from Luvaas to give Brookings a 4-0 lead with 9:20 to go in the second period.
Thor Zell scored an unassisted goal with 5:09 to go in the second period before Ty Braithwaite put the North Stars on the board with a goal with 5:17 left in the third period. Diers scored the final goal of the game with 3:57 left in the third period.
PEEWEE B
FARGO The Rangers took part in the Buffalo Wild Wings Fargo Woodchipper Tournament from Dec. 8 through Dec. 10.
The Rangers won one of their three games at the tournament, defeating Fargo Green while losing to Fort Garry, Fargo Gold and Minnetonka Blue.
Fort Garry 10, Brookings 1
The Rangers dropped their first game of the tournament to Fort Garry on Friday night.
Brookings got off to a quick start as Pierson Rohl scored with an assist from Jacob Myhre 37 seconds into the game but Fort Garry scored two goals in the first period, three goals in the second period and five goals in the third period to earn the win.
Brayden Brintnall made 27 saves for the Rangers. Brookings was outshot 37-10.
Fargo Gold 4, Brookings 3
The Rangers late rally featuring two goals in the third period wasnt enough to defeat the Freeze on Saturday morning.
Rohl scored the first goal for Brookings from Jackson Hahn at 5:43 of the first period but Fargo tied the game with Asher Korbinskys goal at 13:32 of the first period and took the lead with three goals in the second period.
Myhre scored from Hahn with 6:39 left in the third period to cut into the lead and Liam Heiberger scored an unassisted goal at 2:21 left in the third period to make things interesting, but the Rangers couldnt find the equalizer in the final minutes.
Brintnall stopped 34 shots in the loss. Brookings was out-shot 38-27.
Minnetonka Blue 23, Brookings 1
Heiberger scored the lone goal for Brookings unassisted with 2:51 left in the second period. Brintnall made 40 saves and Brookings was out-shot 63-9.
Brookings 6, Fargo Green 4
The Rangers picked up their lone win of the tournament over the Freeze on Sunday morning.
Spencer Lovseth scored from Rohly to open the scoring in the first period and Deacon Trumbo added a goal from Heiberger to go ahead 2-0 into the first intermission.
Myhre scored an unassisted goal with 9:22 to go in the second period before the Rangers scored three times in the third period to put the game away.
Heiberger scored with an assist from Rohl with 10:34 to play, Myhre scored on an assist from Trumbo with 7:29 to play and Rohl scored an unassisted goal with 1:07 to play.
Brintnall made 41 saves in the win. Fargo out-shot Brookings 45-35.
GIRLS 14U
The Rangers won two of their three games this weekend, earning a win over Huron on Friday night and a win over Sioux Center on Sunday afternoon.
Brookings 7, Huron 1
BROOKINGS The Rangers defeated the All-Stars at the Larson Ice Center on Friday night.
Kahlei Foerster led off the scoring with a goal from Khloe Ziegeldorf at 2:45 of the first period and Ziegeldorf scored an unassisted goal at 8:57 of the first period to double the Rangers lead.
The Rangers piled on with a pair of unassisted goals from Ashton Otteson later in the first period and Lorelei Hoch scored with an assist from Foerster at 14:02 of the first period go into the first intermission with a 5-0 lead.
Katie Vandersnick scored an unassisted goal at 1:34 of the second period to add to the lead before Otteson completed a hat trick with an unassisted goal at 12:40 of the third period. Natalee McGaugh scored the lone goal for Huron from Taylor Sorben at 13:40 of the third period.
Audrey Andal made 10 saves in the win while Avery Dentlinger made seven saves. Brookings out-shot Huron 31-18.
Oahe 6, Brookings 2
PIERRE The Capitals used a pair of three-goal periods to defeat the Rangers 6-2 at the Fort Pierre Expo on Saturday morning.
Ava Lavinger opened the scoring for the Capitals with assists from Dakota Mcentaffer and Aubrey Stewart 41 seconds into the game and a pair of unassisted goals by Mallery Lehrkamp gave Oahe a 3-0 lead after the first intermission.
Otteson scored an unassisted goal at 11:13 of the second period and another unassisted goal 33 seconds into the third period to cut into the lead but Lavinger scored a power play goal from Mcentaffer and Lehrkamp at 2:09 of the third period before Mcentaffer and Lavinger scored later in the third period to put the game away.
Dentlinger made 28 saves in the loss. Oahe out-shot Brookings 34-12.
Brookings 2, Sioux Center 1
BROOKINGS The Rangers completed the weekend by defeating the Sioux Center Storm at the Larson Ice Arena on Sunday afternoon.
Meyer scored a goal from Brooklyn Nelson at 2:00 of the first period to put Brookings on the board and Nelson scored an unassisted goal at 2:12 of the second period to give the Rangers a 2-0 lead.
Sioux Centers Brooklyn Byl scored at 11:29 of the third period for the Storms lone goal.
Dentlinger made 32 saves in the win. Sioux Center out-shot Brookings 33-14.
SQUIRT A
BROOKINGS The Rangers split a pair of games, defeating Brandon Valley but losing to Aberdeen at the Larson Ice Center on Saturday afternoon.
Brookings 13, Brandon Valley 0
Sutton Jensen had four goals and an assist and Kaden Ziegeldorf had a hat trick in the Rangers win over Brandon Valley.
Elliott Ahmann had a goal and two assists in the win and Ryker Schumacher had a goal and an assist.
Colton Hendricks, Cooper Hyde, Brodie Bahe and Finn Knochen also scored goals in the win.
Juke Anderson made four saves in the win. Brookings out-shot Brandon Valley 38-4.
Aberdeen 3, Brookings 2
Schumacher scored an unassisted goal with 7:07 left in the second period and Jensen scored with an assist from Konechne with 7:18 left in the third period.
Anderson made 12 saves for the Rangers, who out-shot Aberdeen 17-15.
SQUIRT B RED
BROOKINGS The Rangers had a strong weekend, earning shutout victories over Huron and Sioux Center at the Larson Ice Center on Saturday.
Brookings 11, Huron 0
Knox Frericks scored six goals, including three in the first period and Joey Francisco scored five goals with three in the third period to lead the Rangers over Huron.
Tate Heiberger and Talon Hatten had assists in the win while Nash Billings earned the shutout with nine saves.
Brookings out-shot Huron 32-9.
Brookings 7, Sioux Center 0
Hatten scored the opening goal from Francisco with 11:17 left in the first period and Frericks scored three consecutive goals to close out the first period.
Sydney Hahn scored with an assist from Frericks with 6:49 left in the second period and Francisco scored with an assist from Nora Vanderbush with 3:42 left in the second period.
Frericks added an unassisted goal with 4:40 left in the third period.
Billings made three saves for the shutout. The Rangers out-shot Sioux Center 27-3.
SQUIRT B BLUE
BROOKINGS The Rangers earned wins over Mitchell and Yankton on Saturday at the Larson Ice Center.
Brookings 11, Mitchell 2
Avery Swisher scored four goals and added two assists to help lead the Rangers over the Marlins on Saturday morning.
Graham Itterman scored twice, Nicholas Hanson had a goal and an assist and Maddox Chandler had two assists.
Henry Dangel, Mason Nelson and Evan Rounds each scored a goal while Bradley Cox added an assist.
Sarantis Theodosopoulos had three saves. The Rangers out-shot the Marlins 33-5.
Brookings 15, Yankton 0
Swisher scored five goals and Itterman scored four goals to lead the Rangers over the Miracle on Saturday afternoon.
Nelson had a hat trick and Dangel earned the shutout with four saves.
Hanson had three assists in the win while Evan Rounds added one assist.
The Rangers out-shot the Miracle 26-4.
