Four area boys basketball teams suffered losses on Tuesday night. Deubrook Area lost to Deuel, Flandreau fell to Hamlin, Elkton-Lake Benton lost to Castlewood and Iroquoius/Lake Preston was beaten by Wolsey-Wessington.
Deuel 59, Deubrook Area 51
WHITE The Cardinals used a strong second and third quarters to defeat the Dolphins on Tuesday night.
Deuel won the first quarter 13-12 before outscoring the Dolphins 18-9 in the second quarter to take a 31-21 lead into halftime. The Cardinals led 47-36 going into the fourth quarter and were able to hang on despite Deubrooks 18-12 advantage in the fourth quarter.
Jake Jorenby led Deubrook with 23 points while Landen Johnson had 14 points. Colton Trooien and J.P. Rogness each had five points in the loss.
Gabe Sather led Deuel with 25 points while Trey Maaland had 17 points and Caleb Ronne had 12 points.
The Dolphins fell to 0-2 with the loss and will travel to Oldham-Ramona/Rutland on Friday night.
Hamlin 68, Flandreau 27
FLANDREAU The Fliers dropped to 1-1 on the season with the loss.
Luke Sheppard led Flandreau with eight points and six rebounds.
Tyson Stevenson and Zac VanMeeteren each had 11 points. Jackson Wadsworth had 10 points.
Castlewood 75, Elkton-Lake Benton 32
ELKTON It was a tough night for the Elks as they trailed 28-0 after the first quarter and 49-9 at halftime. They then outscored the Warriors 20-14 in the third quarter and each team scored 12-12 in the fourth.
ELB was led by Tanner Drietz who had 13 points. Colt Beck had six points. The Warriors were led by Luke Baumberger who had 24 points. Lane Tvedt had 15 points and Byron Laue had 16 points. Jamison Keszler had nine points.
The Elks are now 0-1 on the season and host Iroquois/Lake Preston on Friday at 7:15 p.m.
Wolsey-Wessington 69, Iroquois/Lake Preston 32
IROQUOIS The Sharks fell behind 23-15 in the first quarter and then trailed 41-26 at halftime. They were then outscored by the Warbids 28-6 in the second half.
Josh McMasters led the Sharks with 16 points. Lucas Peskey had seven points and Rexton Blue had five points. Moshe Richmond had 25 points and Tate French had 20 points for Wolsey-Wessington.
Iroquois/Lake Preston is now 1-1 on the season.
