The Flandreau Fliers, Iroquois/Lake Preston Sharks and Colman-Egan Hawks picked up wins in their season openers as high school basketball returned to the area on Friday night.
Colman-Egan, 64, Arlington 52
ARLINGTON The Hawks jumped ahead early and never looked back as they defeated the Cardinals on Friday night.
C-E took a 19-8 lead in the first quarter and led 32-18 going into halftime. The Hawks led 49-31 going into the fourth quarter before Arlington won the fourth quarter 21-15.
Jase Mousel led the Hawks with 22 points and eight rebounds. Jackson Zwart had 16 points and seven rebounds and Jack Mousel had 15 points and seven rebounds. Christopher Lee also had eight points and four rebounds in the win.
Miles Antonen had 16 points and seven rebounds for the Cardinals while Keden Steffensen and Riley Miller had seven points each. Paxton Rheault also had nine points and 12 points off the bench for Arlington.
C-E shot 35 percent for the game and committed 10 turnovers. Arlington shot 36 percent and committed 24 turnovers. Arlington out-rebounded C-E 46-39.
After winning their season opener, the Hawks will host Flandreau Indian Nation on Monday night. The Cardinals will host Castlewood on Friday night.
Flandreau 57, Chester 38
CHESTER Luke Sheppard scored 19 points with 13 rebounds and seven assists to help the Fliers defeat Chester on Friday night.
Kaden Bursheim had 15 points in the win while Alfie Henderson added nine points and Jon Schrader had eight points.
We played with great intensity and effort on the defensive end, Flandreau head coach Brendan Sheppard said. We are going to have more depth on our team this year and had some nice contributions from the bench. We made some 3-pointers in the second half, which will help us going forward.
After winning its season opener, Flandreau will host Hamlin on Tuesday night.
Iroquois/Lake Preston 64, Oldham-Ramona/Rutland 48
LAKE PRESTON Josh McMasters had 16 points and seven steals while Weston Woodcock had 13 points to lead the Sharks over the Raiders on Friday night.
Rexton Blue had 10 points and seven rebounds, Daunte Glanzer had eight points and Lucas Pesky had six points, six rebounds and five steals.
Boyd Pooler and Caden Hojer had 18 points each for the Raiders.
After winning their season opener, the Sharks will host Wolsey-Wessington on Tuesday. The Raiders will host Deubrook Area on Friday.
