Local hockey: Brookings native Breck Hirrschoff signs tender with NAHL team

BROOKINGS Former Brookings Rangers forward Breck Hirrschoff has signed a tender to play with the Lone Star Brahmas of the North American Hockey League beginning in the 2024-25 season.

Hirrschoff cited his desire to play junior hockey as a reason for his decision as well as the chance to learn under head coach Dan Wildfong, who has over 600 career wins and elevated several young players to the collegiate ranks.

I think his coaching style is really similar to how I play, Hirrschoff said. That helps as a coach that moves guys to the next level. You always want him on your side.

Hirschoff spent the last four seasons with the Rangers varsity team, racking up 95 goals, 106 assists and 201 career points including 30 goals, 42 assists and a state-high 72 points while leading Brookings to its third straight championship last season.

Hirrschoff jumped to the Sioux Falls POWER Tier 1 development team for his senior season and has scored 15 goals with 14 assists in 21 games. While hes enjoying his time in Sioux Falls, hes also excited for the next chapter.

It was kind of the whole goal of coming down here, Hirrschoff said. To play at the junior level and for that to happen so fast, it was pretty exciting.
