MITCHELL The Brookings Swimming Club opened their winter season when they traveled to Mitchell to participate in the 2023 South Dakota TIDE Winter Invite at the Mitchell Aquatic Center last weekend.
McKinley Schwab had a tremendous day finishing in first place in nine events in the girls ages 11-12 division. Schwab finished first in the 500-yard freestyle (5:56.65), the 100-yard freestyle (59.25), 50-yard breaststroke (37.50), the 100-yard backstroke (1:08.69), the 200-yard butterfly (1:07.22), the 50-yard backstroke (30.43), the 200-yard backstroke (2:27.62) and the 50-yard freestyle (26.71).
Kalla Foerster had a similar day in the girls age 13-14 division with five first-place finishes. Foerster finished first in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:06.07, first in the 100-yard individual medley with a time of 1:07.48, first in the 400-yard individual medley with a time of 5:10.25, first in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 2:07.76 and first in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:14.74.
Sofia Gonzalez picked up a pair of first-place finishes in the girls age 13-14 division, winning the 1000-yard freestyle with a time of 11:47.17 and the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:48.20.
Addelyn Rausch finished first in two events in the girls 8U division with a time of 18.12 seconds in the 25-yard freestyle and a time of 22.95 in the 25-yard backstroke.
Kjersten Johnson picked up a first-place finish in the girls age 9-10 group with a time of 40.99 in the 50-yard breaststroke.
Carmen Kurtenbach also finished first in the girls 8U division with a time of 55.98 seconds in the 50-yard backstroke.
Jensen Weber picked up the lone first-place finish for the boys in the age 9-10 50-yard backstroke with a time of 35.74 seconds.
