Three area schools were represented in the preseason South Dakota Prep Media basketball polls.
On the boys side Sioux Valley was the lone representation as the Cossacks were ranked fourth in Class A. The Cossacks finished last season with a record of 23-3 and beat St. Thomas More in the consolation championship. Sioux Valley will open the season on Saturday at home against Clark-Willow Lake at 7 p.m.
Two teams received votes on the girls side. Flandreau was just outside of the top five in Class A as the Fliers received 17 votes. Sioux Falls Christian was fifth with 18 votes. The Fliers went 20-6 last season and fell in the consolation championship to Sioux Falls Christian. Theyll begin the 2023-24 season on Thursday at Chester at 7 p.m.
Arlington received 10 votes in Class B, which put them two spots outside of the top five. The Cardinals went 17-5 last season and fell to Castlewood in the Region 2B semifinals. They begin the season on Tuesday and host Howard at 6:15 p.m.
