Noem wrong to criticize Target

Was Target the anchor store that backed out of being the anchor store for Ryan Companies I-29 development? Both companies are from Minneapolis and have connections to residents in Brookings. According to many it was Target.

Was it a business decision or the fact that Governor Noem told people June 7 this year to boycott Target stores? She was upset over a gift of an undisclosed amount to a Native American group, but what really got her was their Pride month at their stores. She called Target dangerous and fundamentally tearing down this country.

I grew up in a small town, as did Gov. Noem, albeit much earlier than she. I have to be honest I had really no clue what homosexuality was. I just went along with the thought that Mother Nature wanted all species to reproduce. It was when I got to college that I met homosexual individuals.

My experience was that they were fine people, but on a different wave length concerning sexuality. Not a problem with me, after all it wasnt any of my business, and, most importantly, they were fine humans. After college and the Army I moved to South Dakota and got into business; I even had a few employees that were homosexual. Not a problem as long as they were good at their job.

Another learning shock was when I shot a pheasant that exhibited both sexes. I took it the university thinking I really had something. I was told they already had plenty of samples and to my surprise I was told it happened in humans. It is called intersex or hermaphrodite human.

I have very little biological science background, but in a way it makes sense that the most complicated species on the planet have all kinds of different variables at birth, caused by genes, DNA, chromosomes and on and on. Many are supported by organizations such as the March of Dimes, Easter Seals and Shriners because they are humans, just as those are who carry the Pride banner.

The governor, who has played the role of an electrician and plumber in the Freedom Works Here ads (which is true unless your business competes with one of her out of state friends), should know we are all wired differently and could have different plumbing.

The one thing we all have in common is that we are human and deserve love. I do draw the line on love, however when someone may inflict harm on others.

Governor, I know you like to slam the woke, but please call me woke. I would rather be awake with knowledge and love than asleep in the Dark Ages with hate.
