The annual Audubon Christmas Bird Count will be in the Brookings Circle on Dec. 16.
This is a fun citizen science activity that your whole family can participate in. There are two ways to participate, but you must register with the compiler for each one. You can count birds in a sector of the Brookings Circle, or you can count birds at backyard bird feeders.
To register you can come the Brookings Birding Club meeting onDec. 13 at 7p.m. in Larson Nature Center at Dakota Nature Park or you can contact the compiler at[email protected].
Counting involves identifying a species and recording the time and number seen. This information is then reported to the compiler at the end of the day. A sheet with probable birds that can be used to record your own sightings will be sent to all who register.
