The Brookings Rangers varsity team opened up while there was plenty of action with the Bantam A, Bantam B, Girls 14U, Pee Wee A and B, and Squirt Red and Squirt Blue teams in this weeks Ranger Roundup.
Boys varsity
The Rangers picked up a sweep in their opening weekend, defeating Yankton and Mitchell in their first two games of the season. At 2-0, the Rangers will host Sioux Center at the Larson Ice Center at 7 p.m. on Friday.
Brookings 6, Yankton 2
BROOKINGS The Rangers took an early lead and pulled away with three goals in the third period in a win over the Bucks at Larson Ice Center on Saturday night.
Owen Schneider opened the scoring with an unassisted goal at 9:10 of the first period before Riley Linstad scored on an assist from Schneider and Luke Honkomp to give Brookings a 2-0 lead at 11:07 of the first period.
Jack Pederson scored on an unassisted goal at 15:07 of the first period to help the Bucks trail 2-1 into the first intermission but Tre Christopherson scored on an unassisted goal at 11:49 of the second period to put the Rangers up 3-1 heading into the second intermission.
Jacob Kahle scored on a goal from Cooper Deatherage and Jack Merritt to extend the lead to 4-1 at 4:38 in the third period but Tucker Renken scored unassisted at 7:26 of the third period to make it a 4-2 game.
Chrisopherson scored his second goal of the game unassisted at 13:18 of the third period and Jacob Kahle put the game away with an assist from Merritt at 14:22 to give Brookings the win in its season opener.
Addison Ronning started for Brookings and stopped eight shots. The Rangers out-shot the Bucks 56-10.
Brookings 11, Mitchell 0
MITCHELL Ronning picked up his first shutout of the season, stopping all 12 shots to help the Rangers rout the Marlins at Toshiba Arena on Sunday afternoon.
Riley Linstad led the way offensively for Brookings with a five-point night including three goals and two assists. Luke Honkomp also added a goal and two assists while Jackson Heller (two goals), Kahle (one goal, one assist), Chase Karch (two assists) and Schneider (two goals) each had two points.
Merritt and Ren Jacobsen also had goals in the win while Jay Harris, Deatherage and Hyde each had one assist.
Boys JV
Brookings 6, Yankton 2
BROOKINGS The Rangers scored twice in each period to defeat the Bucks at the Larson Ice Center on Saturday night.
Parker Nielsen opened the scoring with a goal from Connor Buckley at 5:05 of the first period and Ayden Petty scored an unassisted goal one minute later to give Brookings a 2-0 lead.
Andrew Hahn scored a power play goal from Mavrick Bortnem at 1:36 of the second period to put Brookings up 3-0 before Taten Benson scored from Dawsn Thoms at 4:10 of the second period to help the Bucks make it a 3-1 game.
But the Rangers had too much success on the power play for Yankton to make it a game. Nielsen scored his second goal of the game on a power play from Cody Jacobson and Cooper Schneider at 8:08 of the second period. Hunter Haas answered with a power play goal of his own from Elijah Larson to cut into the lead at 2:41 of the third period but Hahn scored with an assist from Buckley at 7:29 of the third period and Buckley scored an unassisted goal at 11:44 of the third period to put the game away.
Paxtyn Pottorff started at goalie for Brookings and made nine saves. The Rangers also went 2-4 on the power play and out-shot Yankton 36-11.
Brookings 6, Mitchell 4
Esten Schlimgen started the scoring with a goal from Victor Contreras and Brody Huls to give the Marlins a 1-0 lead with 14:02 in the first period and added a second unassisted goal at 11:54 of the second period to put Mitchell up 2-0.
Pacxton Denne scored with an assist from Schlimgen at 14:31 of the second period to give the Marlins a 3-0 lead but Buckley scored on an unassisted goal five seconds later to help the Rangers go into the second intermission down 3-1.
The Brookings offense took over after Denne scored an unassisted goal 26 seconds into the third period, however, rattling off five unanswered goals to come away with the win.
Bortnem scored the first goal for the Rangers at 1:42 of the third period before Caleb Johnson scored back-to-back goals with an unassisted marker at 3:15 and a power play goal from Cooper Schneider at 7:12 of the third period to tie the game at 4-4.
Tryston Hostler scored the go-ahead goal on an assist from Nielsen at 9:34 of the third period and Bornem scored the final goal on the power play from Nielsen at 16:39 to cap the scoring.
Ryder Anderson made 20 saves in net and the Rangers went 3-for-6 on the power play. Mitchell out-shot the Rangers 31-24.
Bantam A
BROOKINGS The Rangers lit up the scoreboard, out-scoring Sioux Center, Yankton and Brandon Valley 35-2 in three wins at the Larson Ice Center.
Brookings 12, Sioux Center 0
Four different players enjoyed four-point games as the Rangers shut out the Storm on Friday night.
Jason Ready and Jack Loveseth each had three goals and an assist in the win while Mason Diers and Mauer Bartley each had two goals and two assists.
Carson Kludt had a goal and an assist and Nolan Krogman had two assists. Un-Hyeng Keay had a goal while Isaac Andal, Andrew Haufschild and Maxten Jensen each had one assist.
Neil Trygstad made the start at goalie and made two saves for Brookings. The Rangers also went 2-for-2 on the power play and out-shot the Storm 52-2.
Brookings 10, Yankton 1
The Rangers scored another big victory, scoring five times in the first period to defeat the Miracle on Saturday afternoon.
Ready had another big game for Brookings, scoring three goals and adding three assists for a six-point game. Bartley also added two goals and two assists while Kludt (one goal, one assist) and Jensen (two goals) also had multi-point games.
Cade Zweber and Cannon Friedrich each had goals while Loveseth, Diers and Keay each had an assist.
Trygstad made four saves in net while Brookings went 2-for-3 on the power play and out-shot the Miracle 40-5.
Brookings 13, Brandon Valley 1
The Rangers scored early and often with four goals in the first period, four goals in the second period and five goals in the third period to beat the Ice Cats on Sunday afternoon.
Kludt had a seven-point game with two goals and five assists while Jensen had a five-point game with three goals and two assists. Krogman had two goals and two assists while Rady (one goal, two assists), Bartley (two goals, one assist) and Diers (two goals, one assist) each had three-point games. Keay had a goal while Zweber and Foerster each had an assist.
Trygstad started in goal and made six saves for the Rangers. The Rangers also went 1-for-2 on the power play and out-shot Brandon Valley 46-6.
Bantam B
Brookings 6, Sioux Center 0
BROOKINGS The Rangers routed the Storm by scoring three goals in the first period on the way to a 6-0 win at the Larson Ice Center on Friday evening.
Jeremiah Hovey opened the scoring with a goal from Lucas Hovelson at 10:53 of the first period and the Rangers took a 3-0 lead into the first intermission with Colin Jacobsons goal from Ty Harris at 11:21 of the first period and Grant Horns goal from Thatcher Haselhorst at 12:21 of the first period.
Harris scored from Beau Luvaas at 11:32 of the second period to make it a 4-0 lead and Luvaas scored from Hovelson at 14:25 of the second period to go ahead 5-0. Colt Vanmaanen scored from Horn at 12:39 of the third period to cap the scoring.
Jon Drew started in goal and made four saves for the Rangers. Brookings went 0-4 on the power play and out-shot the Storm 62-4.
Girls 14U
Sioux Falls 6, Brookings 1
SIOUX FALLS The Flyers jumped out to a 5-0 lead and didnt look back as they defeated the Rangers at the Scheels IcePlex on Saturday afternoon.
Callie Pederson opened the scoring at 3:20 of the first period for the Flyers and Sioux Falls took a 2-0 lead on Juliana Chans goal from Aniston Murray at 7:28 of the first period. After Allie Holm added an unassisted goal at 1:25 of the third period, the Flyers got goals from Anabel Berdahl from Evelyn Berg at 6:08 of the third period and Alyssa Ver Hoeven from Anabel Berdahl at 10:22 of the third period to go ahead 5-0.
Khloe Ziegeldorf scored the lone Brookings goal from Emily Meyer at 10:54 of the third period and Holm capped the scoring with her second goal of the game on a power play from Pederson at 14:04 of the third period.
Avery Dentlinger made 39 saves for Brookings while the Rangers didnt have a power play attempt. Sioux Falls out-shot Brookings 45-9.
Pee Wee A
BROOKINGS The Rangers picked up a pair of wins over Yankton and Watertown at the Larson Ice Center over the weekend.
Brookings 12, Yankton 1
The Rangers scored three times in the first period, five times in the second period and four times in the third period to rout the Miracle on Friday afternoon.
Weston Diers had a hat trick in the win while Luke Luvaas had two goals and an assist. Thor Zell and Jasper Pitts each had a goal and an assist while Owen Rounds scored a pair of goals and Kallen Serfling had two assists.
Graham Gerlach, Myles Anderson and Coy Friedrich each had a goal while Oliver Ahmann and Tegan Jensen each had one assist.
Warner Carroll made three saves in nets for Brookings while the Rangers out-shot the Miracle 56-3.
Brookings 12, Watertown 0
The Rangers scored three times in the first period, four times in the second period and five times in the third period to shut out Watertown on Sunday afternoon.
Ahmann had two goals and an assist while Zell had two assists and a goal. Rounds and Anderson each had a pair of goals while Pitts had two assists. Diers, Serfling and Blaine Zweber each had a goal and an assist. Jensen and Gerlach each had one goal and Friedrich also had an assist.
Isaac Haufschild made 10 saves in net for Brookings while the Rangers out-shot Watertown 32-10.
Pee Wee B

The Rangers scored five times in the first period and three times in the second period to defeat the Miracle on Saturday afternoon.
Gavin Zwibahmer opened the scoring with an unassisted goal with 12:57 left in the first period before Jacob Myhre scored from Liam Heiberger with 12:15 left in the first period. Spencer Lovseth scored from Branch Otteson with 5:14 left in the first period before myhre scored his second goal of the game unassisted with 4:04 left in the first period. Heiberger ended the first period with a goal from Pierson Rohly and Myhre to make it 5-0 with 1:05 left in the first period.
Zeibahmer scored from Lovseth with 13:12 to go in the second period before Myhre completed the hat trick with 9:17 left in the second period. Heiberger added his second goal of the game with 3:47 left in the second period.
Brayden Brintnall made six saves and the Rangers out-shot Yankton 39-6.
Brookings 12, Watertown 0
The Rangers scored six times in the first period, twice in the second period and four times in the third period to shut out Watertown on Sunday morning.
Myhre led the way with four goals and an assist for the Rangers while Heiberger had four goals. Liam Diercks scored twice for the Rangers while Jackson Hahn added a pair of assists. Zweibahmer scored one goal in the first period while Pierson Rohl, Deacon Trumbo and Branch Otteson each had an assist.
Brintnall had eight saves and the Rangers out-shot the Lakers 20-8.
Squirt Red B1
BROOKINGS The Rangers split a pair of games, defeating Watertown and dropping a game to the Squirt Blue team at the Larson Ice Center on Sunday.
Brookings 10, Watertown 0
The Rangers scored three times in the first period, three times in the second period and four times tin the third period to shut out the Lakers on Sunday morning.
Joey Francisco led the way by scoring six goals in the win while Knox Frericks had four goals and an assist. Kennedy Hanson, Tate Heiberger and Sydney Hahn also had one assist each.
Nash Billings made six saes for the Rangers, who out-shot Watertown 16-6.
Brookings Squirt B2 Blue 5, Brookings Squirt B1 Red 4
The Rangers squirt teams played each other in a close matchup at the Larson Ice Center on Sunday afternoon.
The Squirt Blue team got out to an early lead when Maddox Chandler scored from Avery Swisher with 10:01 to go in the first period and took a 2-0 lead on Swishers goal from Hunter Vincent with 59 seconds remaining in the first period.
The Squirt Red team tied the game with goals from Knox Frericks and Joey Francisco to tie the game in the second period but Swishers goal from Xander Reeser with 4:03 to go in the second period gave the Squirt Blue team a 3-2 lead into the second intermission.
Frericks and Francisco both scored again with an assist from Talon Hatten in the third period but Swishers third goal of the game and Vincents goal from Swisther with 4:25 to play helped secure the victory.
Sarantis Thodosopoulos mad 15 saves for the Blue team while Billings made 15 saves for the Red team. The Blue team out-shot the Red team 20-15.
Squirt B2 Blue
BROOKINGS The Rangers won two of three games, defeating Yankton and Watertown but losing to Aberdeen at the Larson Ice Center last weekend.
Aberdeen 9, Brookings 1
Grahm Itterman scored the lone goal for Brookings with 11:08 to go in the second period. Henry Dangel made 13 saves for the Rangers, who were out-shot by Aberdeen 22-8.
Brookings 12, Yankton 0
The Rangers scored once in the first period, five times in the second period and six times in the third period to rout Yankton on Saturday afternoon.
Swisher led the way with four goals and an assist while Vincent had a hat trick and an assist. Dangel scored two goals while Otta Haselhorst had a goal and an assist. Evan Rounds scored a goal while Nicholas Hanson and Graham Itterman each had assists.
Theodosopoulos earned the shutout by making six saves in net. The Rangers out-shot Yankton 37-6.
Brookings 6, Watertown 2
Swisher opened the scoring with an unassisted goal with 4:46 remaining in the first period. Haselhorst scored back-to-back goals to extend the lead in the second period with an assist from Reeser with 9:50 left in the second period and an unassisted goal with 8:23 left in the second period. Reeser scored from Dangel at 5:14 left in the second period before Maddox Chandler scored from Swisher with 4:51 left in the third period and Itterman added a goal with 2:18 to play.
Theodosopoulos made one save for the Rangers, who out-shot Watertown 27-3.
