BROOKINGS A two-vehicle accident early Tuesday morning sent a Brookings resident to the hospital and leftthe vehicles wrecked.
According to a news release from the Brookings Police Department, a 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee driven by Joshua Vadeweerd, 42, of Brookings, struck a 2003 Hyundai Elantra driven by Ashley Markus, 35, also of Brookings, in the intersection of 20th StreetSouth and 22nd AvenueSouth.
According to the report, the Jeep stopped for the flashing red light and continued east on 20th Street. The driver did not see the Hyundai, which was traveling north on 22nd at approximately 5:55 a.m.
The vehicles collided in the intersection and both were significantly damaged and later towed.
Markus sustained minor injuries and was taken to the emergency room at Brookings Health System.
