BROOKINGS Six players scored in double figures to lead South Dakota State to a 95-58 win over Washburn at Frost Arena on Tuesday night.
SDSU opened the game on an 8-2 run sparked by a pair of baskets by Brooklyn Meyer. Although the Ichabods cut the lead down to 10-7 and later trailed 16-13, the Jackrabbits went on to take a 20-15 lead at the end of the first quarter.
The Jacks broke the game open with a 25-2 run in the second quarter and outscored Washburn 38-13 on the way to a 58-28 lead at halftime. SDSU opened the second half with a 14-3 run and its lead swelled to as many as 43 points as the Jacks cruised to victory.
Brooklyn Meyer led SDSU with a team-high 18 points to go with seven rebounds and Tori Nelson had 14 points and seven rebounds while Paige Meyer added 14 points and four assists in just 15 minutes.
Madison Mathiowetz scored 11 points with three assists and three rebounds and Madysyn Vlastuin had 10 points and eight rebounds. Mesa Byom had 11 points and seven rebounds, Natalie Nielsen had seven points and three rebounds and Ellie Cobeck had five points, five rebounds and four assists. Jenna Hopp also added four rebounds and four assists.
Aubrey Dewee led the Ichabods with 10 points and six rebounds while Yiiba Nwidadah also had 10 points. Liz Boyd had eight points and five rebounds while Gabi Giovannetti had seven points and a rebound. Amay Davison also had six points and two rebounds.
South Dakota State shot 57.1 percent from the floor and 6-for-15 (40%) from 3-point range. The Jacks also went 17-for-25 (68%) from the free throw line and out-rebounded Washburn 52-26.
Washburn shot 33.3 percent from the floor including 3-for-22 (13.6%) on 3-pointers. The Ichabods also shot 9-for-16 (56.3) on free throws.
SDSU committed 11 turnovers to Washburns 9 turnovers.
The Jacks improved to 4-2 with the win and will host Washington State at Frost Arena on Dec. 5.
