BROOKINGS Brooklyn Meyer scored a career-high 29 points as South Dakota State routed South Carolina State 72-42 at Frost Arena on Friday night.
Meyers night was fueled by a hot shooting performance as she shot 11-for-15 from the floor and pulled down nine rebounds.
With Meyer leading the way, the Jackrabbits enjoyed a 9-0 run to start the game before the Bulldogs rallied to take a 15-13 lead late in the first quarter. Paige Meyer hit a 3-pointer at the buzzer to give SDSU a 16-15 lead at the end of the first quarter and the Jacks took off in the second quarter, shooting 7-for-13 (53.8%) to lead 36-26 at halftime.
That was enough cushion for SDSU to take over the game in the second half. The Jacks led by as many as 21 points in the third quarter and out-scored S.C. State 36-16 in the final 20 minutes to come away with the victory.
Paige Meyer had a successful return after missing the past three games due to injury, putting up 10 points with three assists in 15 minutes.
Madysen Vlastuin also contributed with eight points and nine rebounds while Madison Mathiowetz had seven points and four rebounds and Tori Nelson had six points, four rebounds and four assists.
Mesa Byom also contributed off the bench with four points and seven rebounds. Ellie Colbeck and Jenna Hopp both had three points and Natalie Nielsen had two points in four minutes of action.
Releford Jordan led the Bulldogs with 10 points and tied with Cassandra Coln with a team-high five rebounds. Morgan Beacham, Jada Morgan and Taniya McGowan also had two assists each.
SDSU shot 46 percent for the game and 6-for-24 (25%) on 3-point attempts. The Jacks also out-rebounded the Bulldogs 40-31. S.C. State shot 31.3 percent fo the game and just 3-of-18 (16.7%) on 3-pointers. SDSU also forced 17 turnovers while committing 12.
The Jacks improved to 3-2 with the win and will return to action when they host Washburn at Frost Arena on Tuesday night.
