Civil Air Patrol color guard takes part in Veterans Day events in Brookings

BROOKINGS The Civil Air Patrol Color Guard Team from the Big Sioux Composite Squadron participated in two events during Veterans Day weekend.

The team posted colors at the opening of the Veterans Day program organized by the Veterans of Foreign Wars and held at the United Living Center in Brookings.

At the conclusion of the program the Color Guard ensured the proper retiring of the colors. Cadets on the team were C/Maj Mitchell Trias (team commander and national color bearer), C/MSgt Tyson Springman (state color bearer), C/SrA Johnny Weelborg (color escort), and C/Amn Kaeden Kalber (color escort).

The following day, members of the squadrons color guard team presented the colors during the singing of the National Anthem at the opening ceremonies for the 2023 Taekwondo Fall Classic held at the Mickelson Middle School. Cadets of the Color Guard were C/Maj Mitchell Trias (team commander), C/MSgt Tyson Springman, C/SSgt Tysen King, and C/Amn Kaeden Kalber.

The color guard is a specialized team of cadets chosen to carry and present the national and state flags at ceremonies and events, said Maj Tyler Gross, Big Sioux Composite Squadron commander. It is considered an honor to be selected as a member of the Color Guard team. Team members can be identified by the white shoulder cord they wear.
