Brookings law enforcers respond to new animal cruelty incident

BROOKINGS An animal complaint led to a juvenile and 12 dogs being taken from a residence in Brookings on Friday due to unsanitary conditions, per a news release from the Brookings Police Department.

The incident unfolded in the 600 block of 12th Avenue, and charges are pending against two adults. Since the charges had yet to be formally filed as of Monday afternoon, the BPD would not release the names of the two individuals.

The investigation is ongoing, and assistance was provided by the South Dakota Department of Social Services and Heartland Veterinary Clinic in Brookings.
