BROOKINGS – The State of South Dakota is investing millions of dollars in its multi-year rebuild of U.S. Highway 14 through Brookings, and it now appears the Department of Transportation (DOT) will build the community a brand-new city street as well.

The Brookings City Council this evening is expected to approve a Joint Powers Agreement that will give the go-ahead to a new thoroughfare – Sunrise Ridge Road North – in the Walmart-Runnings-Lowe’s area in east Brookings.

During the consent agenda portion of the business session, the council will designate the mayor to sign the Joint Powers Agreement, which calls for the city to maintain the street once it’s completed; the DOT will design the road, advertise for its construction and pay for it.
