Brookings firefighters check over the site of a dump truck rollover south of Brookings on Wednesday morning as a Dakota Service employee gets ready to tow the overturned truck from the ditch.
Authorities were called to the scene, just north of the intersection of 32nd Street South and Western Avenue South, at 8:41 a.m. Fire Chief Darrell Hartmann said the Austreim Landscaping dump truck was traveling south on Western, and a Ready Mix truck was headed north. The dump truck driver moved over to make room for the passing vehicle when he hit the soft shoulder on the side of the road. The loose gravel pulled the truck off the road, and the vehicle rolled and landed on its top in the west ditch, spilling its load of rocks. For the complete article see the 06-05-2014 issue.
