Marvin H. Hoekman, 73, died at his home in Rutland under the care of Madison Hospice.
Funeral services are at 2 p.m. Friday at West Center Baptist Church in Madison with the Rev. John Barcanic, the Rev. Chris Gorman and intern pastor Trevor Schubert officiating. Burial is at Graceland Cemetery in Madison.
The family will be present for visitation at 7 p.m. Thursday at Ellsworth Funeral Home in Madison. Visitation continues one hour prior to the service at the church.
Marvin Henry Hoekman was born May 7, 1940, in Bennett County to Cornelius and Johanna (Wynia) Hoekman. He graduated from Colton High School and attended Calvin College and Dordt College. He married Joanne Brown on Oct. 12, 1961, at Sioux Falls.
They farmed near Colton, Chester and Wentworth. In 1973, they purchased a farm near Rutland, where he lived until his death. He worked a short time at Wenk's Produce, Grow-Joy Plants and drove school bus for Rutland School for 20 years. He was an active member of West Center Baptist Church where he taught Sunday school for many years.
Survivors include his wife, Joanne of Rutland; two sons, Kelvin (Billie) Hoekman of Nunda and Tim (Angela) Hoekman of Hartford; two daughters, Tammy (Stan) Fods of Madison and Becky (Steve) Pressler of Humboldt; 13 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; three sisters, Mariann (Henry) Haak of Sioux Center, Iowa, Carol (Jean) La Perriere of Lake Placid, Fla., and Edith (Earl) Hemmeke of Holland, Mich.; two sisters-in-law, Juna Hoekman and Thelma Hoekman. both of Holland, Mich.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Alvin and Ben Hoekman; and an infant grandson.
