• Five more years suspended with conditions
BROOKINGS – A Brookings man who fired a shotgun through an apartment door in a break-in attempt in January is facing five years in prison.
Twenty-one-year-old Ryan Halvorson was sentenced on Tuesday to 10 years in prison, with five of those years suspended, for one count of discharge of a firearm into an occupied structure.
The charge dates back to the early morning hours of Jan. 29, when police were called to an apartment in the 100 block of Second Avenue South for a report of a man with a shotgun trying to get into the residence.
