Arts Council, DBI want ‘War Horse’

“War Horse”, a junk-metal sculpture by Lemmon artist John Lopez, has been stabled at the Brookings Arts Council for the past year, but he’s scheduled to go back to his West River home in May. The BAC and Downtown Brookings Inc., however, are partnering in a fundraiser that could make the horse sculpture a permanent part of the Brookings art scene.

BROOKINGS – ““War Horse”” could become the symbol for a downtown art renaissance in Brookings.

At least that’s what Heather Kallhoff and Kristin Heismeyer are hoping.

The two women, executive directors of the Brookings Arts Council and Downtown Brookings Inc., respectively, announced plans this week to raise $30,000 to keep the popular equine sculpture in the city.
