Lessons from Constanza

BROOKINGS – A school day at Centro Educativo Cecaini in Constanza, Dominican Republic, is a little different than one in Brookings.

Kids walk to school, in uniform, to attend either the morning or evening shift of classes. None of them eats lunch there. They may not eat at home that day, either. And when they finish their schooling after the seventh or eighth grade, they’ll likely go to work in the fields.

Brian Prow, Brookings photo manager for the photography business Lifetouch Inc., returned from Constanza last week, where he had been helping to build a vocational school at Cecaini.
