BROOKINGS – A former South Dakota State University student, accused of intentionally exposing two other students to HIV, will continue to be held on a $20,000 cash or surety bond, Circuit Judge Greg Stoltenburg decided this week.

Demetrius Colaites, 19, is facing two counts of intentional exposure to HIV infection. Both are Class 3 felonies punishable by up to 15 years in prison and a $30,000 fine.

He’s also charged with sexual contact with a person incapable of consent. That’s a Class 4 felony with a maximum punishment of 10 years in prison and a $20,000 fine.
