Ghostly apparitions flutter in the wind as they dance in an urban “graveyard” in Brookings. Dark figures in the shadows watch the ritual, and a skeleton (back, center) begins to climb out of his casket to join the Halloween festivities. As the ghosts join hands, the resident witch (left) stirs up even more magic in her cauldron.
The graveyard scene takes place at a home in the 1900 block of Orchard Drive. Trick-or-treaters stopping there Thursday will find their way past the headstones by following a line of lighted broomsticks. There may be ghosts and goblins and ghouls about on All Hallows Eve, but the weather witch is predicting successful trick-or-treating – cool and cloudy, with no rain or snow until Friday.
