BROOKINGS – From her office in the 1921 Building, Kim Jones is working this year to educate Brookings County residents about the new health care mandate and health insurance options coming out of the Affordable Care Act. She’s also coordinating the 16 other “navigators” of Community Action Partnership (CAP) who are doing this work throughout the state.

CAP is one of three entities in South Dakota receiving one year of grant funding to introduce the new health care law and insurance options here. Others are the Great Plains Tribal Chairmen’s Health Board in Rapid City, which is concentrating its efforts on Native American residents, and Community Health Care Association of the Dakotas, which is working to educate and enroll its existing patients in health coverage.

“All three of these grantees, we have really worked closely together to make sure that we are not duplicating services to people and to make sure that we are reaching all of the areas in the state that need to be reached,” Jones said.
