October is National Breast Cancer Awareness month, and the Brookings City Council did its part to spread the message by “thinking pink” at this week’s council session. Note that the always-dapper Tom Bezdichek (at right) had his pink T-shirt tailored into a V-neck sleeveless sweater vest. On Monday, Oct. 28, some of the males on council will slip on their red high heels to Walk a Mile in Her Shoes, making a trek through downtown Brookings to raise funds for the Brookings Domestic Abuse Shelter. The street stroll is part of the International Men’s March to end sexual assault and gender violence. And if pink shirts and red high heels aren’t enough, some of the council’s male contingent will begin “whiskering up” soon to participate in No Shave November, which Mayor Tim Reed says calls attention to a men-only issue, prostate cancer.
