BROOKINGS – A Brookings driver escaped injury when someone caught him in a “car trap,” but the prank resulted in about $400 in damage to his truck’s smashed windshield.
A local man told police he was in the area of Seventh Street and Main Avenue about 11:30 Saturday night, when he turned to head east on Seventh.
As he made the turn, he noticed a large, white rope being quickly strung up in front of his 2007 Ford F-150 pickup.
The man said the rope had a hard object attached – which did the damage to his windshield. The rope was tied to a street sign, and the driver said he saw a man holding the other end. By the time he’d pulled over and inspected his truck, the man had fled the scene.
Brookings police are continuing to investigate the incident.
