BROOKINGS – Appointing a committee to review the Brookings city charter might well have been the result of Tuesday’s council discussion about what style of government that charter dictates and whether that style is being followed by the councilors, mayor and city manager.
As it was, two citizens gave their input, councilors each said their piece and the discussion seemed to end Tuesday.
Tom Dobbs, retired economics professor, and former Mayor Gail Robertson both spoke to the council. Dobbs said he believes the city manager form of government is “a much better form of city government than we had before.” But, it bothers him that councilors seem to often be reacting to the leadership of the city manager, rather than the other way around.
