• Lake Sinai homeowners assail commission for failure to act promptly on zoning snafu
BROOKINGS – Paul and Nancy Hope will get to build their cabin on the banks of Lake Sinai, thanks to a special rezoning approved Tuesday by the Brookings County Commission.
The Hope homesite once again sits on agricultural land, but their neighbors’ property remains locked in a Natural Resource District (NRD), and they’re none too happy about it.
Jack Otta, president of the Lake Sinai Association, delivered a blistering condemnation of the commission’s actions, accusing commissioners of nearly everything from malfeasance to conspiracy.
Nancy Hope said what the commission had done was a land-grab “made without due process.”
“There is an illegal taking of my rights and my land and how I’m going to use it,” she said.
