Heat affecting Brookings area schools

BROOKINGS – High temperatures and higher heat indices have made the upper floors of a number of SDSU residence halls uncomfortably warm. About half the halls on campus are not air conditioned, university officials report.

Students in those building have been offered a number of options, including relocating to cooler areas of campus or to local hotels while the university installs temporary air conditioners in affected areas.

Volga Christian has dismissed its students early for the past two days due to heat.

And in Brookings, the school district has moved some sports practices to early morning or later evening hours.
