BROOKINGS – The Jackrabbits saw a stellar second half of play go down the drain again as Loyola scored on a header off a corner kick midway through overtime to beat South Dakota State, 2-1, on Sunday at Fishback Soccer Park.

Kristin Rodriguez headed Shelby Koch’s corner kick past SDSU’s Nicole Inskeep in the 96th minute of play to lift the Ramblers to the victory.

“Story of our lives, unfortunately – the exact same thing that happened last year – had more corners; had more chances and find ways to lose,” said SDSU head coach Lang Wedemeyer. “Yes, we’re still a young team, but we have enough maturity that we can’t let these (games) get away from us like they did today.”

Despite playing against a strong south wind for the first 45 minutes of play, the Jacks were only one shot down (8-7) and had a 3-2 advantage in shots on goal, along with a 4-1 edge in corner kicks.

Those numbers grew more impressive in the second half as SDSU limited Loyola to a single shot, while firing 13 shots of its own. The Ramblers did have a shot on goal in overtime – and made it count.
