Richard E. Distad, 83, died Thursday, July 25, 2013, at United Living Community in Brookings.
Funeral services are 11 a.m. Monday at Bethel Lutheran Church in Astoria. Visitation is from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Bethel Lutheran Church in Astoria. Rude’s Funeral Home, of Brookings is assisting the family with arrangements.
Richard Eugene Distad was born on Feb. 17, 1930, in Deuel County, the son of Rosevelt and Erma (Mennis) Distad. Dick was baptized and confirmed in the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in rural Astoria.
He graduated from Astoria High School in 1948. He then served in the National Guard and was stationed in Anchorage, Alaska, from 1950 until 1952.
After returning from the military, he lived with his parents on the farm east of Astoria until the fall of 1976, when he moved with them to Estelline. He later moved into Brookings.
Dick was a member of Bethel Lutheran Church. He was an avid sports fan and an excellent bowler.
He is survived by two sisters Eileen Johnson of Brookings and Margene (Sanford) Rymerson of Toronto; a sister-in-law, Marlene Distad, of New London, Minn., and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews .
He was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Distad and a brother-in-law, Carllyle Johnson.
