BROOKINGS – For a husband and wife who call themselves “rank amateurs” at gardening, Jim and Gloria Thvedt have certainly done their share.

They joined the Brookings community garden in the 1980s, when it was located on land that is now Edgebrook Golf Course, and they’re still out there – this year tending seven plots.

Of course, walk up to almost any plot at the community garden right now and the first thing you’ll notice is what’s missing – the green.

“This is just the second time that we’ve lost pretty much everything,” Jim said.
