Finding, honoring a family's patriots

Doris Roden, regent for the John Kerr Chapter of Daughters of the American Revolution, in Brookings, looks over an application for DAR membership. The local chapter has 48 members.

DAR looks back to revolutionary roots in history

Today Doris Glantz Roden is regent of the John Kerr Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) in Brookings.

Roden grew up on a farm in the Armour area with a library and books that included the Elswyth Thane series of novels that "traced the life of a family from Revolutionary War times through World War II." The flyleafs had geneaology charts of the fictional Day and Sprague families. "I didn't even know my grandparents. They were gone before I was born."

She became fascinated with genealogy. Driving that fascination was "finding out where my father and mother came from."
