George Michael Semeniuk, 67, died May 24, 2013, in Madison, Wis. following a valiant battle with cancer.
A celebration of life service will be held at 11 a.m on Saturday, July 6 at First Presbyterian Church, 405 7th Ave. in Brookings.
George, the son of George and Alexandra (Alice) Semeniuk was born May 24, 1943, and was a 1964 graduate of Brookings High School where he was a stellar student and athlete. He graduated from the University of Kansas and earned a doctorate from Duke University in physical chemistry. His 30-year career with the Environmental Protection Agency was in the area of control of toxic substances. George made his home in Alexandria,Va., and was an expert horseman who enjoyed point to point racing and fox hunting with the Loudoun Hunt of Leesburg, Va.
He is survived by his mother of Madison, Wis.; two sisters, Sandy Keating of Oak Harbor, Wash., and Shirley (Don) Wallace and Middleton, Wis.; five nieces and nephews, their families and many extended family and friends.
George was preceded in death by his father.
